Last Friday, 26 Olathe North Track & Field Athletes ran, jumped, and threw their way into the KSHSAA State Championships.  In order to earn their ticket to Wichita an athlete or relay team had to place 4th or better in the Regional meet.  The state track meet is a two day meet that is scheduled to start on Friday morning and will run clear through until Saturday evening.  The state meet does not follow a normal meet schedule so please take a look at the schedule for the meet here.

The first Olathe North athletes in competition will be Isaiah Simmons (long jump) and Marcel Spears (shot put) at 8am on Friday.  Libby Friesen and Alex Finestead will be the first events on the track when they will run the 3200 meter run at 8:25am and 8:40am respectively.  Kai Rowden will look to defend his state championship in the high jump at 11:30am Friday as well. These will be the only events run as finals on Friday as all other races on the first day are prelims to the finals on Saturday.  In the Preliminaries Mauricio Chio will run the 110m high hurdles at 9:20am, the girls 4x100 meter relay team (Sarah Hines, Emily Hines, Traci Blue, Megan Wurts, Zosha Herford, and Jyl Stewart) will run at 9:45am and the boys 4x100 meter relay team (Simmons, Rowden, Cole Murphy, Venus Triplett, Jesse Krump, Anthony Gagliano) run at 10:05.  Emily Hines will run the 400m dash at 10:25am and then Chio will return at 11:35 for the 300 meter intermediate hurdles.  Our last two events on Friday will be at 12:05pm and 12:45pm when Traci Blue run for a spot in the 200 meter finals and the girls 4x400 meter relay (Traci Blue, Megan Wurts, Emily Hines, Sarah Hines, Loretta Achoki, and Izzy Anstaett) tries to punch their way into Saturday's final.

On Saturday, Jyl Stewart and Megan Wurts will start the day at 8:30am in the 100 meter dash prelims.  The finals for the girls 100meter dash will be run later on Saturday at 12:45pm.  Also on Saturday, both boys and girls 4x800 meter relay teams (Alex Finestead, Easton Moore, Nate Wickoren, Wyatt Heikes, Cole Brockman, Chryspus Muema, Loretta Achoki, Taylor Walters, Abby Friesen, Izzy Anstaett, and Libby Friesen) will compete at about 11:25am (girls) and 12:30pm (boys).  Loretta Achoki, Nathan Wickoren, and Alex Finestead will come back at 1:50 and 2:35 for the 1600 meter run.  The day will end with the finals in the 4x100 meter relay (3pm girls/ 3:20pm boys), girls 400m dash (3:45pm), boys 300 m hurdles (4:45pm), Loretta Achoki in the 800 meter run at 5:20pm, the girls 200 m dash (5:50pm) and the girls 4x400 meter relay finals at 6:30pm.

We are hoping that every one of our athletes has their best meet of the year and would love it if you can come down to Wichita and cheer us on!
