Olathe Twilight Race Information

Olathe North is excited to host everyone to an evening of cross country racing under the lights at the Olathe Twilight!

The 5000m high school and 3000m middle school courses wind around and through the Olathe District Activity Center in a layout that features long straightaways, wide turns, and a finish inside the track complex. All of this makes for a unique atmosphere that you won't find in a typical cross country meet.

We're extremely proud that Olathe Twilight has turned into one of the more anticipated early season races in Kansas. And it is one of our goals as the Olathe North cross country coaching staff that it continues to be a positive and exciting experience for runners, coaches, and spectators for many years to come. 5:55 PM - Boys C Team Combined Red & Blue 5000m Race (unlimited entry, recommended for athletes SLOWER than 22:00)

6:35 PM - Girls Junior Varsity Blue 5000m Race (unlimited entry, recommended for runners FASTER than 26:00)

Race Placement

Race Placements are listed here.

As soon as Race Placement has been finalized (Entries close Sun 9/7 at 8pm. Our goal is to have race placement done by Mon 9/8 early evening) they will be emailed to coaches and listed here.

In order to relieve the congestion at the starting line and afford the opportunity to a few more teams the Varsity race and Junior Varsity Race will be split into 2(two) heats each. The C Team race will not be split which is why we have recommendation finish times for JV and C Races; to keep those races as balanced as possible). Heats will be combined for the purpose of team scoring. Individual medals however will still be awarded based on an athletes finish place in their respective heat.

The Red Race will be comprised of the top ranked teams and individuals with the balance of the remaining teams placed in the Blue Race. All Individuals will be placed in the Red Race.

Teams will be placed in their heat using seed times (Milesplit will automatically pull lifetime 5K PR's. We will use these as seed times).
Teams will be ranked using total time of their top 5 runners that have been entered.
The top 10 teams per gender will be placed in the Red Race for that gender.
The top 15 Runners by seed time not already in the Red Race will be placed in the Red Race and will "pull" the rest of their team into the Red Race with them.
All remaining teams will be placed in the Blue Race

Additional Information regarding which division teams have been placed in is below.

Each gender will be placed in their races separately; meaning that it is possible for a team to have girls in the Red Race and boys in the Blue Race or girls in the Blue Race and boys in the Red Race, or obviously both genders in the same Red/Blue Race.
All racing levels (Varsity, Junior Varsity, & C Team) of the same gender will be in the same race color (ie. If a team is in the Boys Varsity Red Race then they are in the Boys Junior Varsity Red Race and the Boys C Team Combined Red & Blue Race).

Entries and Entry Fees

$150 per gender per team. $300 if bringing both genders. $30 per individual athlete if less than five. Please mail fee to Olathe North Cross Country, 600 E. Prairie St. Olathe KS 66061. Middle School races will continue to be free.

Entries will be done on ks.milesplit.com. The registration site will open well ahead of the meet and will remain open until Sunday Sep 7th at 8pm to allow us time for race placements. Please enter every athlete that has the possibility of running. No need to designate which race you plan to have athlete run in.

Middle School athletes do NOT need to enter to be entered on ks.milespilt.com. Just show up be on the line at race start time and race!

Parking and Admission Fees

There will be a charge for parking just like in years past. $10 CASH per vehicle entering ODAC. Please bring exact change. NO CHANGE WILL BE GIVEN, this allows us to quickly get everyone into the meet. There is no additional individual admission to the meet. Once you have paid and entered the complex follow the parking guides and they will help get you parked as fast as possible.

Within ODAC there will be two sections that are blocked off for safety reasons but there should be more than enough parking in the normal parking areas. Handicap parking for those needing it is still accessible and at the north end of the track complex.

In the past some teams have allowed athletes to drive themselves. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! We are extremely tight on parking and this takes up valuable space for parents and spectators. I know it may be inconvenient but please bring your teams together in school transportation. If athletes do drive themselves they will still need to pay $10 per vehicle to get into the meet.

Awards

Top 20 individuals in every high school race will receive medals.

Top 15 individuals in each middle school race will receive medals

Results from the Red and Blue Varsity races will be combined and the top 2 teams will receive trophies.

Individual medals and Team awards for the Varsity races will be announced and given at the completion of the last race on the soccer field. Medals from the Junior Varsity and C Team Races will need to be picked up by athletes from an awards table located within the soccer field after the completion of their races. Exact location will be announced over the loud speakers.

Results and Timing

We will be using chip timing again this year so we can give you complete results as quickly as possible. Make sure you attach the chip securely to the athletes shoe and that we receive ALL chips back prior to you leaving the meet. There is a $20 per chip fee for unreturned timing chips.

Live Results will be published to milesplit.live and then after the meet to ks.milesplit.com Simply search for "Olathe Twilight" and then select the race you are interested in.

We will NOT be timing the Middle School races. There will be a large finish line clock at the finish line so that the middle school athletes/coaches/parents can view their finish time as they cross the finish line.

The Course and Course Maps

The course will be run around the Olathe District Activities Complex. The course will be run on the grass around the perimeter of ODAC with the finish on the track inside the Track/Football Stadium. There are a few short sections where the route crosses the parking lot. At these sections there will be sections of turf or rubber mats so that runners are not running on concrete.

Concerning the start and finish line, please communicate to parents and fans to stay clear of both areas. Both are extremely congested. Then lastly at the finish area do not attempt to contact any athlete still in the finish chute. Keeping the finish area clear will help us conduct a smooth exit from the finish and ensure accurate race results.

Team Camps

We are asking that you set up your team camps inside the Soccer Stadium. There is grass on the outside of the field (still within the fence) that can accommodate everyone. Please do not set up on the turf.

Bus Parking

Due to the size of the meet and need for additional car parking we are forced to move buses from the previous parking area on the east side of the Track Complex, buses will need to drop off athletes on the north end of the soccer field. And then depart ODAC to park at Indian Trail Middle School (1440 E 151st St, Olathe, KS 66062) for the duration of the meet. Once you are ready to leave you would then need to call your bus so they may return to pick up athletes.

T-Shirts and Concessions

We will have T-shirts available for $20 until they sell out. These will be located on the south end of the soccer stadium near the main entrance to the team camp area.

Additionally will have a variety of food trucks providing dinner and dessert menus. In they past they have sold out so plan to visit those earlier rather than later. We hope your families can enjoy themselves and stay for the evening with great atmosphere and food!
